CAPTAIN Paul Hayes will not be leading Wanderers back on to the pitch in an FA Cup contest again this season but he hopes the loss will be a “kick up the backside” as they concentrate on their league form.

Along with his teammates, Hayes endured a frustrating afternoon against AFC Wimbledon on Sunday but now says they must focus on their League Two campaign.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We have done our best in all the cup competitions we have been in, but we haven’t done as well as we wanted to.

“But from the position we were in with the squad and the finance and the way the club is at the moment we have done what we could.

“We now need to fully focus on the league and at this moment in time we are doing extremely well in the league and our concentration totally, 100 per cent, goes on to that now.

“When it comes to the league it is our bread and butter and we look forward to getting back to that on Saturday.”

Hayes did voice his disappointment at the early end of their cup run and said on the day Wimbledon just wanted it more.

He said: “It was a typical FA Cup game, it wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t pleasant, but I think Wimbledon wanted it a bit more than we did and that is obviously where it went wrong.

“Unfortunately we haven’t performed to put ourselves in with a good chance of being in the third round. And on that hand it is a kick up the backside.

“Yes, it was a cup game and we have lost and will be disappointed about it, but we know our full focus is now totally on the league and we get back playing there next week.”
