Chesham Stags RFC were represented on stage at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards show in Glasgow on Sunday night.

Coaching duo Rocky Clark and Kat Merchant, who take charge of the men’s first team, were part of the England Women’s rugby team that won the prestigious Team of the Year award.

They beat off competition from Europe’s Ryder Cup golfers, the Merecedes F1 team and the GB & Northern Ireland athletics squad to take the honours.

The squad were nominated for the award after their efforts secured England’s first World Cup win since 1994 after they defeated Canada 21-9 in the final in Paris back in August. Stags club President Cliff Davies was rightly proud of the duo’s achievement and believes they’ve been an inspiration to the whole club.

He said: "I've only known Rocky and Kat for a few years but in that short time I've seen the amount of hard work and dedication required to play sport at the highest level.

“I would like to say to them on behalf of Chesham Rugby Club how proud we all are of them both and what they have achieved.

“They are an inspiration to us and I personally can't thank them enough for all they've done for our club and hopefully will continue to do so for many years to come."
