Chalfont St Peter boss Danny Edwards insists he won’t be getting carried away despite the club’s lofty league position.

The Saints are enjoying a fine season and currently occupy seventh place in Division One Central after a run of one defeat in nine league matches.

With a play-off charge on the horizon Edwards may be forgiven for resting on his laurels, but the Chalfont manager is instead searching for ways to keep improving his team.

“We don’t want to sign anyone for the sake of it, they’ve got to be the right personality,” said Edwards.

“They also have to fit in with what the club does. We’re not a going to go around, because we’re in this position, throwing our wages about and trying to compete. We are what we are.

“The chairman says we’re a village club and we’re exactly where we’d like to be at the moment.”

Saturday saw Chalfont mount a comeback to secure a valuable away point as Aaron Lansiquot equalised with 13 minutes remaining after the Saints had fallen behind after just ten minutes against Aylesbury United.

Edwards has seen his side lose just twice away from home this season – a statistic which betters the record of league leaders Kettering Town – and he believes had they picked up more points at home they would be on course for a title challenge. “To only lose two game away from home so far this season, being brutally honest, is title winning form.

“Our away form’s been good for the last two years it’s been our home form that’s struggled, but we’ve only lost two at home as well.

“You don’t mind drawing away and we’ve had some good points away at Barton, Saturday was a good point. It’s at home that we haven’t picked up the points that we should have done.”

Chalfont have the chance to improve upon their home record when they host Uxbridge on Saturday in a game which Edwards feels will prove trickier than their opponents lowly league position would suggest.

“They won’t be there for much longer. They’ve got, in my opinion, two of the best forwards in the league in Matty Woods and Chris Moore.

“I expect them to move steadily upwards and I think that they are one of the teams who will have looked at what we’ve done in the last few months and probably think they can do the same as us.”
