Wycombe District Swimming Club ended the National Arena Swimming League season with a flourish - securing their highest finish since 2005 in the process.

A total of 75 Wycombe swimmers competed across two meets in different parts of the country as the competition drew to a close on December 13.

The club’s A team travelled to Pool in the Park in Woking where they finished third behind their hosts and Rushmoor Royals.

That result was enough to secure a mid-table finish for the club in the Premier Division South leaving head coach Kevin Brooks full of praise for his swimmers.

He said: “It was a fantastic evening of racing. The competitive nature of the event brought the very best of our swimmers and so many of them stepped-up and gained on the predicted places we thought they’d achieve.

“It was a great display of working as a team and demonstrating the strength of our emerging club.”

The B team were also in action in Division Two, this time at The Quays in Southampton, as they narrowly missed out on the third and final promotion place by just a single point.

A fourth place finish overall at the gala in Hampshire wasn’t enough to seal promotion, but assistant head coach Craig Oliver was proud nonetheless.

“Missing out so narrowly on promotion to Division One may seem disappointing but we mustn’t forget that the WDSC B team was only beaten by A teams from other clubs,” said Oliver. “The B team should be justifiably proud of what it has achieved this year and they’ll be back so much stronger next year as a result.”
