A team effort was required from Wanderers on Saturday to keep a much improved Mansfield side at bay at the One Call Stadium.

The Stags had just three players in their starting XI that played in the 2-1 defeat at Adams Park earlier in the season, and their new look side caused the Blues a number of problems on the weekend.

But for a string of saves from goalkeeper Matt Ingram the Chairboys would have in all likelihood lost for the first time since the televised clash against Burton in November.

Vadaine Oliver and Michael Raynes were left to wonder how the stopper had kept out their respective efforts as the hosts dominated long periods of the game.

The prolonged spells of pressure also drew some excellent defending from the visitors’ back four, none more so than Aaron Pierre who made a number of crucial blocks and headers to thwart the hosts.

Matt Bloomfield captained the side in side in the absence of Paul Hayes, and the 30-year-old led by example as he covered every blade of grass in his efforts to gain control of the midfield battle.

Up top Aaron Holloway was a willing runner and the striker’s aerial presence and ability to hold the ball up provided some much needed relief when the away side were under the cosh.
