Gareth Ainsworth felt Saturday’s victory against Carlisle came courtesy of a strong team effort, but who would you pick out as your man-of-the-match?

Aaron Pierre was as solid as ever for Wanderers at centre-back but it was his attacking instincts which led to him opening the scoring as he nipped in front of Raphael Spiegel to head the ball home. The goal capped a strong performance from Pierre, who will unfortunately miss Saturday’s match against Stevenage after picking up his tenth booking of the season.

Ainsworth admitted after the game that his decision to include Matt McClure would have “raised eyebrows” among Blues fans, but the striker’s display fully vindicated his selection. The forward was a constant thorn in Carlisle’s side with his runs in behind and he could have had two before he eventually found the net to put Wanderers three up with a neat finish.

Talisman and captain Paul Hayes returned to the starting XI for the first time since injury and produced a display which showed very little rustiness. The frontman linked Wycombe’s attacking play and he was involved with their best moves of the match.

In midfield Matt Bloomfield pulled the strings with his accurate passing and ability to break up the home side’s promising attacks. His restoration to the team in the place of Peter Murphy proved to be a shrewd one.
