Fan's View's Will Vince was disappointed to see Wanderers drop points at home to Accrington on Tuesday, but believes they will pick up enough wins on their run-in to secure promotion.

Having seen off promotion rivals Shrewsbury Town in an entertaining encounter at the weekend Blues fans will have been disappointed to see the team fail to put away mid-table Accrington Stanley.

The draw enabled Shrewsbury to return to second place but more alarmingly for the Wanderers, Bury in fourth close the gap to just four points between them and the automatic promotion spots.

With Wycombe massively over-achieving this season the realisation has dawned that they are possibly a maximum of nine games away from a return to League One football, and who would have thought that 12 months ago!

The temptation at this time of the season is to start looking at teams in and around the Blues in the table and assess each of their respective run-ins. The danger is to get too side tracked with what everyone else is doing and to lose focus on the task in hand.

I think Wycombe need four more wins to ensure a top three finish and for once their run-in isn’t unkind. It should be rather empowering that success is very much in their own hands and should they continue their points average over the course of the season promotion will be a formality.

Gareth Ainsworth laid the foundations for this tremendous season with his flawless recruitment that he carried out over the course of the summer.

To his credit that record has continued throughout the season, and with the final transfer deadline coming up at the end of March a continuation of that trend will provide his team with the ideal platform to finish the job off.

There’s no doubt that Ainsworth has had to be rather cute in the transfer market and with such a small budget it’s a credit to him that he’s attracted so many quality players to the club.

His foresight to anticipate injury problems has meant that players have rarely had to be played out of position this season.

Nico Yennaris is a perfect example of a player targeted by Ainsworth for his versatility and low and behold two weeks after he joined Sido Jombati picked up an injury.

Yennaris and Sam Saunders are proving astute loan signings and certainly weren’t bought in to add numbers to a small squad; they’re making their mark and have refreshed the side in the last few weeks.

If Ainsworth can retain them both for the duration of the season, which will of course have to be agreed by their parent club, that could be the final lift needed to get the Blues over the promotion line.
