Wanderers are likely to be without right-back Sido Jombati for the rest of the season, manager Gareth Ainsworth has revealed.

The Portuguese defender had played every minute of Wycombe’s first 39 games this season up until he suffered an injury in training earlier this month.

Ainsworth had previously been unwilling to speculate on how long Jombati could be out for, but he stated after Saturday’s victory against Dagenham that the 27-year-old will likely be out for the remainder of the campaign.

“Sido unfortunately got an ankle injury in training a couple of weeks ago. We’ve got the results from the scan and it’s not looking great for him,” he said.

“Sido could be out for the season. I’ll say could but the probability is that he will be [out for the season]. Knowing Sido he’ll do everything he can to get back in time.”

The travelling fans invited Jombati to come and join them in the away stand when they spotted the player, who was on crutches, at Victoria Road supporting his team mates.

Ainsworth said: “He’ll play just as big a part in promotion as anyone who’s playing or not playing. He was like a cheerleader today, which was great.

“I’m sure he would have jumped up, not too heavy on his ankle I hope but he would have been one of our biggest fans when he scored.”

On loan Brentford man Nico Yennaris has filled the right-back berth in Jombati’s absence, and after extending his loan deal to the end of the season is likely to keep his place in the back four.

“Nico Yennaris is a player who is capable of playing well above this level, and I think we’re seeing that week, week out the more he gets into the game,” said the Wycombe manager.

“He’s an absolutely fantastic, humble guy who has played at the top with Arsenal and I can’t thank Brentford enough for letting us have him.”
