Morecambe are a “dangerous” team to face, according to Matt Bloomfield ahead of Wanderers’ penultimate game of the season.

The Wycombe midfielder sights the final game of the 2008/09 season, when the club were promoted from League Two in third place, as a reason why teams with nothing to play for can sometimes be the hardest to beat.

Notts County rocked up at Adams Park with nothing riding on the game and beat Peter Taylor’s Blues, who were chasing League One football at the time.

Bloomfield said: “Sometimes these teams can be dangerous because there’s no pressure on the players and they can come out and play with freedom.

“If they try something and it doesn’t come off then it doesn’t really matter because there’s nothing riding on it, so these teams can be dangerous.

“I remember when we got promoted under Peter Taylor and we played Notts County in the last game of the season and they beat us, but we still managed to go up on the day. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Jim Bentley’s Morecambe can play a part in who manages to take the final automatic promotion spot as they host fourth place Southend on the final day.

“There are some weird and wonderful results at this time of the season and Morecambe can have a big say in what happens,” said Bloomfield.

“I just hope they don’t have a say with us on Saturday and that they can save a big performance for the last day of the season back at home.”

Blues manager Gareth Ainsworth is also wary of the Shrimps, who’ve had a solid season and lie 12th in the table ahead of the final two fixtures.

He said: “We need to turn up on Saturday and do the business because Jim Bentley and his team have had a fantastic season. They’ve had a really, really good season because they are very much in the same mould as us.

“They’ve got no resources, they have a youth set-up, which is one up on us, but I think money-wise we’re very similar. Morecambe have had some cracking results against some bigger teams and they can consider themselves a fellow ‘giant killer’ like us.

“This will be a tough game and league positions suggest we’re one of the teams above them that they want to beat and get a scalp off. Jim Bentley is a professional, he’ll come with a winning attitude and we’ll have to be on the ball on Saturday to beat them.”
