Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth says the deals for Brentford loanees Sam Saunders and Nico Yennaris can be extended to include the play-offs – but he stated that the final decision rests with the Bees.

As it stands both players, who’ve been constant features for Blues since joining in February, are due to return to west London after Saturday’s final game of the season against Northampton.

If Wanderers don’t manage to push their way back into the top three this weekend then they would need Brentford’s permission to extend the pair’s deals and allow them to participate in the play-offs.

“As far as I know, yes they can,” said Ainsworth when asked whether their deals could be extended.

“It’s a question for Brentford obviously, but we could well need them.”

Mark Warburton may have his own play-off campaign to worry about should the Bees make up the two point gap to the top six in the final round of Championship fixtures.

Wanderers, who already have one of the smallest squads in League Two, were without Saunders against Morecambe on Saturday after he pulled out shortly before kick-off.

Ainsworth said: “Sam had a fitness test this morning, passed it but something’s happened in the warm-up. I’ll have to see, I’ll have to speak to the physios and see.

“Sam’s struggling, he came off at Wimbledon last week with sore ribs. It’s not his ribs this time but we’ll have to have a look and assess him. It is a blow.

“He’s one of our set piece specialists and I didn’t think our set plays were great today (Saturday). We missed Joe Jacobson for that as well.

“The season was just two games too long but I’m sure everybody in Adams Park today was proud of what we’ve done this season. They’ll be coming next week, whatever’s after that and next season.”
