Matt Ingram felt Wanderers’ failure to deal with Morecambe’s threat from set pieces was a contributing factor behind their defeat on Saturday.

After an even first half the ‘keeper was called upon to make a catalogue of fine saves as the visitors found space all too easy to come by in the Wycombe box.

But for the 21-year-old’s heroics the scoreline would have been far more comfortable for the Shrimps.

“We didn’t mark very well at set pieces and they were quite clever with them,” he said.

“We had a few chances and I think that if we stick one of them away early on then, because they’ve got nothing to play for, maybe they collapse and we could get the win.

“There are no excuses, we didn’t mark well enough from set pieces and we didn’t win the game.”

Ingram had a new look back four in front of him on Saturday as Nico Yennaris moved to centre-back in the absence of Aaron Pierre and Marcus Bean filled the vacant right-back role.

The stopper said: “It was different having Nico in there but I thought he did really well. He won all his headers, used his body well, dealt with Kevin Ellison well, and even Beany at right-back did really well.

“Woody’s left-back and he did that last season so he’s used to it, but again he did really well.”

Ingram has played in every minute of every game for Wanderers this season – the only remaining player to do so after injuries to previous ever presents Joe Jacobson and Sido Jombati.

“For most parts of the season we’ve been extremely lucky that we haven’t had injuries, or only one or two that we could cover,” said the home grown ‘keeper.

“Since the loan window shut, the last few games we’ve had injuries and people have been playing through injuries. There are a lot of tired legs but we’ve got a week to recover and we’ll go again Saturday.”
