The players in light and dark blue quarters gave a performance to be proud of at Wembley only to suffer heart break in the penalty shoot-out.

Nico Yennaris has been a superb addition to the Wycombe squad since his arrival on loan from Brentford in February and he once again displayed why Gareth Ainsworth was so keen to bring him to the club. Playing in a central midfield role, the 22-year-old was crucial in breaking up Southend's attacks and keeping midfielders Ryan Leonard and Michael Timlin quiet.

Joe Jacobson has been one of Wanderers' most consistent players this season and he turned in one his best displays yet. The left-back ensured David Worrall offered very little down the right before his 95th minute free-kick looked to have won the game for Blues.

Captain Paul Hayes led by example up top and he came into the game after a first half in which both sides struggled for fluency going forward. The 31-year-old linked up well with Aaron Holloway and was only denied a goal by a superb one handed save from Dan Bentley.

Aaron Holloway, fresh from signing a new one-year deal, was also subdues in the first 45 minutes before coming to life after the break. The striker should have made the game safe for Blues after great work saw him clean through in the second half of extra-time.
