Both Amersham and Gerrards Cross were defeated in Division Two of the Home Counties League on Saturday.

Cross had started well away at Dinton thanks to an opening stand of 55 between James Crosthwaite (27) and Sam Westaway (29) but slipped to 87-4 after Matt Watson (4) and Dan Hampton (1) fell cheaply.

Middle order batsmen Ali Birkby (77) and Jamie Hoddle (37) put on a 100 off 90 balls to push Cross past 200 before a late flurry from Sam Bracy (15*) and AJ Woodland (14*) helped them finish on 222-6 off 50 overs.

Hoddle (3-24) did his best to peg back the hosts, taking the first three wickets to leave Dinton on 33-3.

Joseph Bracey (3-30) also picked up a trio of victims as Cross looked to be nearing victory as they reduced the home side to 110-7.

But Dinton rallied and a 97 from Alister Gibbins saw off their opponents and wrapped up a three wicket win with ten balls to spare.

Cross did however enjoy success in the Home Counties Twenty20 Cup after a ten wicket win against Horspath.

Set a target of 139 to win, openers Dan Hampton and Sam Westaway wasted no time in booking an encounter with Slough in the semi-finals after guiding their side to the last four with four overs to spare.

Hampton bludgeoned 88 off 54 balls, featuring 6 sixes, while Westaway finished unbeaten on 49 as they reached 140-0.

Amersham are second bottom of the league table, four places below Cross, after defeat against leaders Great & Little Tew.

Batting first the hosts endured a miserable time and only number seven Luke Jackson (37) got into double figures as they were bowled out for just 81 off 32.4 overs.

The visitors didn’t have it all their own way in their run chase, losing five wickets before eventually getting over the line in the 20th over.

Dinton host Amersham on Saturday while Cross welcome Shipton-Under-Wychwood in their Division Two clash.
