Nathan Hawkes believes his century against Henley on Saturday may be the best innings of his life.

The 26-year-old has been in scintillating form for High Wycombe this season, with the weekend’s ton his third in seven innings in the Home Counties Division one.

During that time he has risen to the top of the league’s scoring charts having racked up 487 runs, and he has been out only twice, giving him an average of 243.50.

Hawkes, who is in his first season at the London Road club, notched his maiden century against old side Oxford before compiling an unbeaten 107 against Banbury seven days previous to his latest hundred.

His knock of 112 not out against Henley, which came off 111 balls, included 19 fours and dug his side out of trouble when they were wobbling at 64-4.

“I can’t complain with how things are going with the bat at the minute,” he said.

“It was nice to chalk up another hundred and it’s even better to be getting them against the likes of Banbury and Henley, especially with the situation of the game.

“I was speaking to a few people at the weekend and I reckon it was one of if not the best hundred that I’ve ever got.

“The runs at that stage of the game with how it was in the league, made me quite proud and happy when we got over the finish line.”

Since he arrived at the club, Hawkes has been unwavering in his ambition to win Wycombe’s first league title since 2012 and it is still his primary aim – despite the personal accolades mounting up.

He said: “I’m hitting it as good as I’ve ever hit it; I just think that I’m probably in a bit more mature, better place than it has been before.

“I know my game better than I’ve ever known it and it’s quite nice to have experienced players around you. I’m just enjoying my cricket and enjoying life at High Wycombe.

“The personal milestone and everything are nice, but, like I said from day one, I want to win the league with High Wycombe and that’s first and foremost.

“If it means me scoring runs and being on top of the tables in that area then so be it.”
