An incredible final round at the European Masters in Switzerland saw Tyrrell Hatton record his second best finish on the European Tour.

The Marlow resident shot an eight-under par 62 in Sunday’s final round to rocket up the leaderboard and snatch third place at 15-under par for the tournament.

Hatton’s final round heroics saw him finish one shot adrift of second place Matthew Fitzpatrick and two behind overall winner Danny Willett.

He said: “I am really happy. It is my lowest score on The European Tour, so even though I have come up just short I cannot be disappointed.

“To do it on a Sunday at a place like Crans is very special, so I’ll enjoy this one for a while.”

The 23-year-old got over the disappointment of missing the cut at The Open just days earlier to record his best finish of the season, equalling his performance at the same tournament last year.

Hatton had a share of third place after the first 18 holes, carding a five-under round of 65.

He would have had the outright lead were it not for a triple bogey on the last, which followed a first 17 holes that included nine birdies.

Four bogeys on the front nine on Friday dropped him back to two-under before he picked up five shots on the back nine to bring himself back into contention.

A level par round of 70 on Saturday kept him handily placed before the Harleyford Golf Club member found his best form in the final round.

A score of 62, which featured six birdies and an eagle on eight, earned him a deserved third place finish.
