Aaron Pierre is delighted to have the man he affectionately knows as ‘The Wardrobe’ back in goal.

Matt Ingram kept 15 clean sheets in 50 appearances last season as Blues’ defensive effort provided the foundations for a campaign which saw them come agonisingly close to promotion to League One.

The absence of the ‘keeper’s presence and organisational skills were noticeable but the impact of his omission was lessened by the performances of back-up stopper Alex Lynch.

After completing two back-to-back 90 minutes against Basingstoke and Aldershot, Ingram is ready to don the gloves for Wanderers’ League Two opener against York on Saturday.

When asked if he glad to see the 21-year-old back, Pierre replied: “Yes, of course. The Wardrobe – he’s a brilliant goalkeeper.

“Lynchy did exceptionally for us in the three games he played for us, so that will keep Matty on his toes because he can fill in and his confidence has gone up.

“Matty’s got competition now but he’s a top notch goalkeeper and everyone knows that.”

‘Wardrobe’ might appear a strange nickname to have but Adams Park regulars will have seen the physical changes in the ‘keeper since his debut in 2013 which make his comparison with a large item of furniture comprehendible.

When asked how his nickname came about, the centre-back said: “Did you not see what happened against Morecambe? He came out of nowhere and cleaned me out and it takes a lot for a person to clean me out.

“He’s a big lad and I’m glad that he’s right behind me as well. Anything that goes over the top of me and I know that he’ll come and get it.”
