THE boy girl team of Ross Gunn and Jamie Chadwick became the youngest ever winners of the GT4 Championship last weekend.

The Beechdean AMR pairing are the only mixed sex team in the championship as well as being the youngest pairing, but that did not stop them winning the series with a round to spare at the Avon Tyres British GT Snetterton Weekend.

Jamie, 17, only passed her driving test last week while Gunn, from Prestwood, is still only 18.
He told the Bucks Free Press: “To be the youngest pairing ever to win it in GT history is a bit of a dream to be honest and to win it with a round to go is even better. I didn’t really have any expectation at the start of the season but the reliability of the car was exceptional and we won it fairly comfortably in the end.

“It’s incredible, we were up against much more experienced teams, drivers double our age and much more experienced on the circuits, but we came through and won it. It’s only just beginning to sink in. When we realised what we’d done it was a real ‘wow’ moment. It’s hard to explain and put it into words.

“It is something I will remember for the rest of my career. It’s my first car racing championship in my first year of doing it. As it sinks in, I’m feeling prouder and prouder.”

The pair did not immediately realise they had won it. They brought the car home fifth in race one and fourth in the second which was run in a monsoon. Jamie had moved into  a podium position, however, with a race being red flagged the grid is taken from the lap before, thereby putting them fourth.

The difficult conditions caught out many top runners but the teenage duo keep cool heads, to  increase their championship lead to an unassailable 38.5 points going into the final round at Donnington Park.
Jamie, from Gloucestershire, who became the first female British GT champion, and the youngest at 17 years and 95 days, smashing the old record by almost a year, said: “This smile will take a while to wear off!”

Their success leaves Beechdean AMR with back to back GT4 Titles and Beechdean are closing in on a second major track triumph.

The Beechdean AMR GT3, driven by owner and Wycombe Wanderers chairman Andrew Howard and Aston Martin Racing factory’sJonny Adam, also scored a race two win to put themselves  back in their title hunt as they considerably closed the gap on their title rivals.
