IT was a mixed weekend for local sides in the FA Cup Preliminary round with Risborough Rangers’ first adventure in the competition coming to an end but Beaconsfield Sycob strolling through.

Sycob comfortably overcame a potential banana skin against lower league Raunds Town beating them 3-0 in Sunday’s clash at Holloways Park.

The Rams totally dominated their opponents who would have lost by a far higher margin had their keeper Chris Jones not been in inspired form.

He had already produced two stunning saves by the time Charlie Lossano got on the end of a Lee Togwell pass to put Becky ahead inside the first ten minutes.

They doubled their advantage before the 25-minute mark with Tristan Campbell opening his Beaconsfield account to put the hosts firmly in charge of the tie. And they would have been out of sight had Jones not continued his super-show between the sticks.

He was largely responsible for keeping the score down until the 64th minute when new signing Jack Read, who'd been on the pitch for less than a minute, slotted home the killer third goal after being well set up by Aaron Berry.

The victory means that SYCOB now play Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Premier side Kirkley & Pakefield at Holloways Park on Saturday, September 12 in the first qualifying round.

But it wasn’t such a happy weekend for Risborough Rangers

The club which was formed as an U12s side in 1971 hosted their biggest game in their history when they met Evo Stik Southern Division One side Aylesbury FC in their first ever home match in the FA Cup, having won 3-0 away at Ampthill in their maiden match in the competition, the extra preliminary round just a fortnight earlier.

But in front of Rangers’ biggest ever crowd, Aylesbury spoilt the party, running out 3-0 winners.

The first half was pretty even but Aylesbury took the lead in the 22nd minute when a close-range shot  found its way into the net and they added a second goal in the 52nd minute.  Aylesbury wrapped the game up 20 minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty which was duly converted to help put the visitors through to the next round.

Rangers can have another bash at cup action this weekend though when on Sunday they travel to Irchester United in the FA Vase.

Meanwhile, Marlow's FA Cup fate still hangs in the balance. They face a replay at Godalming tonight after drawing 1-1 against them at Oak Tree Road on Saturday. Marlow were trailing before Chris Ovenden's equaliser earned them a second bit of the cherry.
