A Wycombe District Swimming Club (WDSC) youngster set a new British record earlier this month in the 200m butterfly.

11-year-old Katie Crowhurst, who competes in the S13 category for visually impaired swimmers, recorded a time of 04:04:02 to claim the prestigious mantle on Saturday, 21 November. Katie set her time at the Hoddesdon Gala and was supported by the WDSC coaching team throughout the event.

The record breaking swim capped off a fantastic week for Katie as she was also one of three winners from the London South East region at the Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards two days earlier.

WDSC coach, Cameron Roberts, said: “We were all very proud of Katie and really impressed with the way she conducted herself as one of the youngest in a field of 11 other candidates.

“Being the first athlete of the night up on stage and to be interviewed by Gabby Logan was a daunting task, especially in front of all the other athletes and guests.”

The event was held in London’s City Hall and acknowledged both able-bodied and para-athletes from four different regions across the UK.

Katie now plans to put the prize money she won towards equipment, travel and training expenses as she continues her swimming development.
