Micklefield Judo Club (MJC) had a strong representation at the British Schools Championships over the weekend.

The tournament, which was held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, saw fighters compete for their schools after winning gold or silver medals at various area qualifying events.

Saturday started in impressive style as Bourne End Academy student Chloe Dodge came away with a gold medal in the Year 8 and 9 under 40kg category.

Dodge won all five of her matches on her way to the success as she went one better than the silver medal she picked up at the 2015 competition.

Alisa Sydykova and Anusit Phalasan completed the first day of competition for MJC’s fighters. They both performed well to finish fifth in the Year 8 and 9 under 57kg and Year 8 and 9 under 50kg categories respectively.

Sunday was another impressive day for the club’s fighters as Tyrese Yearwood picked up a bronze medal in the Year 6 and 7 under 46kg event.

Yearwood did particularly well to bounce back from the disappointment of losing his first bout to secure a medal position.

Samir Sydykov of St Michael’s Catholic School also claimed bronze as he won two fights and lost two fights in the Year 12 and 13 under 60kg category.
