On a night of few goalscoring chances Wycombe Wanderers chances of making the League Two play-offs may have just faded beyond recovery.

The Blues were held to 0-0 draw by a stubborn if unspectacular Yeovil Town and now find themselves four points behind Wimbledon in eighth.

A trip to Portsmouth on Saturday will be testing for Wycombe and they must surely win if they are to overtake the Dons who also have a game in hand over them.

Wycombe were again lacking a number of first team regulars as an injury crisis which has derailed their play-off bid somewhat rumbles on.

Danny Rowe returned on the bench and Jerell Sellars replaced Max Kretzschmar as the only change in the team which started against Barnet on Saturday.

With Wimbledon enjoying a two point lead over Wycombe before kick-off, the Blues were looking to a win to keep the pressure on their play-off rivals.

Their start belied any sense of urgency however, and they were indebted to Ryan Allsop’s stunning save which denied Conor Roberts in the 10th minute.

The Yeovil right-back had been picked out by a clever flick inside Sido Jombati and hit a low effort towards the bottom corner. Allsop though, reacted superbly as he stuck out a strong right hand to deny the Glovers an early opener.

The 23-year-old has been superb since arriving on loan at the club in February and he had to be at his best nine minutes later as Leroy Lita broke through.

With the angle rapidly tightening, the former Reading man hit a powerful effort at Allsop’s near post and the Wycombe number one did just enough to stop the ball squirming under him and in.

Wycombe came into the match without a first half goal in their last eight games at Adams Park. A statistic they rarely looked threatening.

Their closest effort came through fortune rather than design as Michael Harriman’s miscued cross from the left almost sneaked in at Artur Krysiak’s near post.

The Yeovil keeper reacted well to turn the ball, which was traveling at a considerable rate of knots, around his post.

A mundane first half gave way to an exciting start to the second half as Marcus Bean met a dipping ball on the edge of the box with a superb volley.

His rising effort looked set to find the top corner before Krysiak sprung to his left to tip it over the bar to deny the midfielder his first Wanderers goal.

There was little to suggest the game would produce goals as Yeovil and Wycombe came into the match as League Two’s lowest and fourth lowest scorers.

With an hour played there was little sign of a goal and Gareth Ainsworth opted to introduce Gozie Ugwu for the ineffectual Garry Thompson.

Ugwu has struggled throughout the campaign and could do little to spur the Blues on towards an elusive opener.

Wanderers had worked hard but were, in truth, toiling to create chances. They almost went ahead, however with 12 minutes to play as Aaron Pierre rose highest from a corner to head beyond Krysiak.

His effort looked set to nestle in the top corner but was headed off the line by a stretching Ryan Dickson.

It was the closest Wycombe had come throughout the entire 90 minutes in a match which had seen them fail to create.

Indeed, they could have lost as Ryan Bird inexplicably fired wide for the visitors from eight yards deep into injury time.

It remains to be seen if Wycombe will make the play-offs but the four point gap to Wimbledon looks unsurmountable on their current form.
