Speedworks’ Team Principal Christian Dick was delighted with the form of Tom Ingram as he picked up where he left off at Brands Hatch.

Ingram picked up a podium finish in the first race of the weekend and followed up his strong opening with decent showings in race two and three.

Dick was pleased with the team’s Toyota Avensis as it remained competitive round the Donington track and reserved praise for the High Wycombe-born Ingram.

“Tom was a class act,” he said. “He produced a really mature and measured performance, and with just a lap or two more I’m sure we would have finished second.

“We proved that our Brands Hatch form was no flash in the pan, and I don’t see any reason why we can’t keep that level up everywhere we go, which is really exciting.”

The qualifying session provided Ingram with plenty to think about with the weather constantly changing but he dealt with the conditions well, and if it wasn’t for red flags appearing at the end of his ‘flyer’, he would have secured a pole position.

Ingram said he was gutted to miss out on pole but concedes his subsequent fifth place finish wasn’t a disaster.

“I was a bit gutted to miss out on pole in qualifying,” he said.

“I was literally 100 yards away from crossing the line when the session was stopped.

“That said, fifth place was far from a disaster when it would have been all-too-easy to end up way down the grid in those conditions.”

The race ended prematurely due to an accident and a car fire but Ingram had nonetheless secured his fourth BTCC podium finish from the last five meetings.

In race two, Ingram started well in pursuit of the leader but admitted his priorities lied with preserving his tyres while the extra ballast had an effect.

“I felt like I had the legs on Jackson in race two,” he said.

“I was concentrating on looking after my tyres again whilst keeping Mat under as much pressure as I could, but the extra ballast had an effect on our straight-line speed and after the two safety cars, it all unravelled a bit.”

All was looking well for Ingram but he was edged off the circuit and his Toyota went bouncing across the grass damaging the car’s tracking. He did, however, manage to secure the final points position in 15th.

Speedworks left Donington after the final race in eighth in the team classification as they head to Thruxton for the next meeting.
