Luke O’Nien has signed a deal to keep him at Wycombe Wanderers for three more years.

The 21-year-old put pen to paper on the contract on Friday evening and is now tied to the club until 2019.

The former Watford man has established himself as a fans’ favourite since joining Wanderers last summer and manager Gareth Ainsworth is delighted to retain his services.

He told the club website: “From the first day Luke came in to train with us last summer, I knew I wanted to make him a Wycombe Wanderers player.

“He’s exceeded our expectations for a young man in his first proper season as a professional.

“Luke’s a real role model for youngsters wanting to make their way into the game with the way that he applies himself on the training ground, on the pitch on a matchday and also around the place with team-mates, staff and supporters.”

“We’re delighted to keep him here for another three years and I’m excited about the extent to which his career can develop during that time.”

O’Nien has scored five goals in his debut season at Adams Park and has provided a committed and energetic presence in the Wanderers midfield.

He is clearly comfortable at Wycombe and took the opportunity to share his delight at extending his stay.

O’Nien said: “This place is home to me now and I never had any doubts about wanting to stay here. I’ve loved every minute from the first day that I came into training and everyone made me, my friends and family feel welcome.

“I’m enjoying my football and I’m learning every day from my team-mates and the coaching staff, and I’d like to particularly thank the gaffer, Richard Dobson and Barry Richardson
