Risborough Rangers manager Bob Rayner brought the curtain down on 15 seasons with the club with a 2-1 win over Woodford Town last night.

The game was also Danny Gray’s last appearance, and Rangers were in good form as they set about securing three points in their final South Midlands Division One match of the season.

Rayner has been involved in football for 19 years and will step away from the game now his time with Rangers has come to an end.

After making a strong start Rangers took the lead inside 25 minutes as James Dobson cut in from the right before unleashing an unstoppable drive from 20 yards.

They were made to be patient for their second, but when it did come it was well worth the wait and was typically scored by Martin Griggs.

Rangers’ top scorer collected the ball 35 yards from goal and upon realising the Woodford keeper was off his line produced an inch perfect lob to find the back of the net.

If the goal was special, Griggs’ celebration was also a touching moment as the Rangers captain ran to the side-lines to embrace his manager.

The goal celebration, perhaps, got the better of Rayner’s players’ emotions as they conceded a minute after doubling their lead.

They held out for the remaining 20 minutes though to ensure their loyal manager saw out his tenure with a much deserved win.

It also capped a fine season for the club in a campaign which has seen them win the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.
