A spirited batting display from Beaconsfield saw them salvage a draw from their Thames Valley Cricket league Division 2B match against Thatcham Town on Saturday.

Beaconsfield bowled first and could be largely pleased with what was a restrictive and controlled display in the field.

Their efforts were so impressive in fact that eight of Thatcham’s batsman didn’t make it past 10 runs and only one went beyond 24.

However, a classy knock of 94 from opener Josh O’Flynn allowed the visitors to post a highly competitive score of 202-9 from their innings.

Beaconsfield’s opening weekend win against Burnham Seconds last week owed a great deal to Jason Harrison’s figures of 4-41 and he was once again their main threat with the ball.

His 3-22 included the wicket of O’Flynn and he accounted for three of Thatcham’s top four batsman.

James Randell (3-39) also impressed while there were further wickets for Mark Sullivan (1-19), Conor Thomas (1-25) and Nilesh Odedra (1-43).

The Beaconsfield bating response got off to a shaky start as openers Harrison and Ross Richardson made just five and 15 respectively.

Any potential nerves from the early dismissals were settled somewhat by controlled innings from Odedra and Chris Thomas.

The pair both made half centuries before Odedra fell for 54 off the bowling of Chris Bird and Thomas was clean bowled by john Williams, who finished with 5-50, for 58.

While neither could cash in on their fine starts, their efforts proved enough to steer Beaconsfield to 174-6 as they maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign.

They will look to continue their decent form when they take on High Wycombe Seconds away from home on Saturday.
