Poor weather conditions prevented High Wycombe from extending their 100 per cent start to the Home Counties Premier Cricket League campaign to three matches on Saturday.

Wycombe headed into their away match against Finchampstead on the back of two dominant wins and have started their Division One title defence in fine style.

However, rain ensured they would not even get to face a ball having been set a target of 202 to win by Finchampstead. They would have viewed it as an achievable target after scoring 213 and 345 in their previous matches this season.

The Finchampstead innings had largely been underpinned by a team effort rather than one individual taking on the run scoring responsibilities.

Openers Adam Dewes (15) and Matthew Jones (39) put on 29 for the first wicket before Jonathan Burden bowled Dewes.

It would prove to be the only wicket of the innings for Burden as he finished with figures of 1-31, but the breakthrough set the tone for a solid if unspectacular display in the field.

Indeed, none of Finchampstead’s batsman bettered Jones’ total as a restrictive bowling performance from Wycombe kept their opponents honest.

James Benning (2-25), Uzair Amjaid (2-26), Garth Davson (1-38) and Gavin Baker (1-54) all claimed wickets as the Wycombe attack shared the bowling responsibilities.

Wycombe will hope for better weather conditions when they take on Banbury Firsts on Saturday.

Banbury currently sit on top of the table having played a game more than Wycombe and also boast a perfect winning record.

Victory would see Wycombe move above their rivals and the match promises to be a keenly contested affair between the sides who finished first and second respectively last season.

The visitors will arrive in Wycombe in confident mood having eased to a comfortable 126 run win over mid-table Burnham on Saturday.
