Chesham’s Firsts had a composed performance, and a helping hand from the Duckworth-Lewis system, to thank for a comprehensive seven wicket win over Windsor.

Under greying skies the decision to put their Thames Valley Cricket League Division One opponents into bat having won the toss was a no brainer.

The Windsor batsmen were made to work hard for every run in what were undeniably favourable conditions for the Chesham bowling attack.

Ashley Turney (1-20), Pip France (1-31), Umar Aslam (1-22) and Jason Rance (2-41) all struck for Chesham in a committed and controlled display with the ball.

Windsor would not get to see out their innings as rain stopped play in the 49th over to leave them on 178-6.

The downpour showed little sign of letting up but after a two hour delay conditions were deemed playable and the sides returned to the field.

A brief calculation using the Duckworth-Lewis method left Chesham chasing 116 to win from 20 overs.

It was a total they had little trouble in attaining as they rattled along to 117-3 with over three overs to spare.

A consistent team display with the bat saw Mark Eteen (14), Matt Rance (25) and Jason Rance (25) give Chesham a good foundation for the chase.

Andy Goddard and Luke Webb, who finished unbeaten on 15 and 27 respectively, were left to knock off the final runs of a thoroughly professional chase.

The victory means Chesham have now won their first three games of the season and sit top of Division One ahead of a home match against Wokingham on Saturday.

Chesham’s Seconds were far less fortunate with the weather conditions as rain led to the abandonment of their match against Finchampstead in Division 2A.

Chesham had made hard work of their batting as Ollie Turner’s 44 formed a large chunk of the 147-7 they found themselves on before the rain closed in.

Matt Watson’s stubborn 30 had helped restore their pride form being 9-3 earlier in the day, but his efforts proved to be inconsequential.

Elsewhere, rain robbed Chesham Thirds of an almost certain victory as Steve Ayres’ hostile bowling had skittled Hillingdon for 63 to give him figures of 6-15.

Chesham were 12 without loss when the heavens opened to dampen their hopes and end the match.

Finally, the Fourths suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost by 65 runs against Chalfont St Peter.
