Wycombe Phoenix Harriers enjoyed an impressive weekend across two events as they competed in the Youth Development League (YDL) and Southern Athletics League (SAL).

Firstly, Saturday saw runners from the club’s under-13 and under-15 age groups take part in what proved to be a successful YDL event in Bedford.

Five members of the under-13 boys’ team were in good form and picked up personal bests, with Rollo Parry (1500m and long jump) and Nicholas Mitchell (high jump and shot-put) both performing admirably.

Madeleine Wood and Lottie Warkcup were the pick of the under-13 girls as they recorded personal records in three separate events.

There were also individual records for Mia Caddell (75m and shot-put), Emma Hickman (75m and 150m), Millie Lowrie (150m and long jump) and Ella Griffin (high jump).

Not to be outdone by their younger team mates the under-15 age group were in equally impressive form.

James Keeley, Louis Silvester and Jordyn Rose all picked up personal bests in the 100m, while Joe Styles and Murray Montgomery collected their best ever results in the high jump.

Michael Hall (200m and 300m), Conor Stables (shot-put, discus and javelin), Rous Kerr (shot-put and Javelin) and Dominic Symonds (long jump) did likewise.

It was a similar story for the under-15 girls as the records continued to tumble. There were quickest times for Molly Miller and Sian Vico in the 100m and 300m respectively.

Hannah Peart (75m), Cerys Vico (shot-put) and Emma Styles (discus) rounded off an impressive day for Phoenix as they also picked up personal bests.

Saturday’s individual triumphs would be matched on a team level on Sunday as Phoenix took part in match two of the SAL at Bracknell.

A slew of wins kept them in the hunt for top spot, but they ultimately had to settle for second as Bracknell came away as comfortable winners.
