The curtain came down on The Boodles 2016 as four entertaining matches were played at the Stoke Park venue on Saturday.

A number of stars have been using the event as preparation for Wimbledon, which starts on Monday, and The Boodles saw some of the game’s biggest names take part.

The meeting between the Netherlands’ Robin Hasse and Taylor Fritz provided some of the best play of the day as Hasse came away with a 6-4 7-6 victory.

While the defeat came as a disappointment for Fritz, the American feels he is prepared for his opening match against Stanislas Wawrinka at Wimbledon next week.

He said: “There is no pressure on me, that’s the best thing you can take away when you’re playing one of the top players.

“I’m just excited to get out there and play, I presume we’ll be on a pretty good court and I am just excited to get out there.”

The 18-yeear-old’s confidence is well placed and he has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the world rankings since making his ATP debut in 2015.

Saturday’s action also saw Aljaz Bedene involved as the British number two played the Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosal and ultimately lost 6-2 6-3.

Bedene faces a tough challenge in his SW19 opener where he meets last year’s vanquished semi-finalist Richard Gasquet.

The 26-year-old is looking forward to the championships and hopes home advantage can spur him on to a positive result.

“He’s a great player, I’ve watched him a few times, even my team has a Gasquet fan in it,” Bedene said.

“It’s never easy to play someone who’s been a top ten player for a while but I have to focus on my game and stay aggressive.

“Playing Gasquet at Wimbledon, it’s probably going to be a bigger court than last year so it will be a special day for me. Playing in front of a home crowd is always good so I’m excited for Tuesday.”

Young players have always been given a chance to play at The Boodles and Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas continued the tradition on Saturday.

The current world junior number one took on Guillermo Garcia-Lopez who won the match 6-2 6-4.

Regardless of the defeat, Tsitsipas feels he has learned from his time at The Boodles and will look back fondly on the week.

“It’s been a great experience for sure, I got an opportunity to play with so many top players. It helped me a lot,” he said.

“It was a dream come true for me [to hit with Novak Djokovic]. He told me to smile more during practice, because I was in a bit of a bad mood, even though I was playing with him.

“He told me to just keep smiling during practice and everything would be ok.”

This year’s event concluded with a 6-3 6-4 victory for Dusan Lajovic over Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis.
