Tyrrell Hatton has booked his place at The Open next week after a superb display at the European Tour Scottish Open.

The Marlow golfer finished in second place on -13 as he remained in contention for top spot throughout the final round of play.

Ultimately Hatton could not quite force the issue as eventual winner Alex Norden held his nerve to close on -14.

Hatton came into the tournament knowing a top 12 finish could secure him one of four qualification spots at Royal Troon.

The Harleyford Golf Club member performed consistently throughout the weekend as he carded 70 in his opening two rounds in Inverness.

A superb third round of 66 dragged Hatton into the leading pack heading into Sunday and he spent much of the day tied for third spot.

His form continued late in the day as he recorded a round of 69 to leave himself tied for second ahead of the 18th hole.

A nerveless putt gave Hatton a birdie from the day’s final hole and left him out on his own in the runners up spot.

The Open starts on Thursday before concluding on Sunday, July 17.
