Tyrrell Hatton will have his sights set on his best ever result at a major championship when his final round gets under way at Royal Troon this afternoon.
The Marlow golfer has already set a new career high at The Open by making the cut for the first time in five attempts. But the 24-year-old is also well placed to surpass the share of 25th place he achieved at last year’s US PGA Championship as is he is currently in a tie for 14th place on one-under-par.
Following rounds of 70 and 71, Hatton fired another level-par 71 yesterday to remain very much in the hunt for a top-ten finish after claiming second place at last week’s Scottish Open.
The Harleyford Golf Club member birdied the par three eighth – the famous ‘postage stamp’ – for a third consecutive round but dropped a shot on the par four 13th to move back to one-under.
The Open is currently led by Henrik Stenson, who holds a one shot lead over Phil Mickelson on 12-under-par.
