Goalkeeper Shane Gore has left Chesham United to seek a new challenge after six seasons of service.

Gore’s departure leaves the Generals with young keeper Matt Nolan in their ranks and it is likely Andy Leese will need to find another option in goal.

Having played over 300 games for the club, Gore’s decision to leave did not come easily and he took the chance to thank Chesham in an open letter.

He said: “It was not an easy decision to move club, probably the hardest I’ve had to make in football but I just felt the time was right to challenge myself at a new club.

“I want to thank Andy [Leese], Jon [Meakes], Brian [McCarthy] and all the supporters for everything they have done for me and the great times we have shared.”

Gore also took the chance to look back on a season in which Chesham reached the FA Cup second round, and suggested he could one day return to the club.

He said: “The Bristol Rovers win will always be a highlight and to be part of that was amazing.

“I am very proud to have played over 300 games for Chesham and maybe in the future that tally could increase again.

“I played some of my best football here and some of the most enjoyable too.”

Leese took the time to praise Gore’s commitment to the club and insisted he will leave a lasting legacy.

He said: “I said Last season, he has played himself in to the players in the history of the club that will be remembered for a very long time.”
