Jack Goff is eager to build on an impressive first half of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season with a good performance at Snetterton this weekend.

The High Wycombe racer currently occupies fifth spot in the drivers’ standings and his IHG Rewards Club team are sixth in the team competition.

While Goff is happy with his current position, he believes he now needs to push on and continue the form he has already shown this season.

Goff said: “It’s been a good first half of the season for me, and the fact that I’m fifth in the championship reflects this.

“There’s also been the odd moment or two that, if things had gone slightly differently, could have had us in the top three in the points right now.

“With that in mind I head to Snetterton and beyond with high hopes.”

Goff will look to improve on the fourth place finish he claimed at Croft last time out in the BTCC.

His WSR-run squad are currently the best single-car outfit in the BTCC and will have confidence in their driver’s ability to perform at Snetterton.

The Norfolk track provided him with his first win in the BTCC and he’s hoping to repeat the trick in his maiden year racing in a rear-wheel-drive car.

He said: “I took my first BTCCC win there last year and I’ve been stronger at pretty much every circuit this time around.

“My BMW will carry 39kg of [success] ballast, so that’s not brilliant, but not terrible either, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be very competitive there.”

IHG’s confidence will also be boosted by a successful two-day testing session at Snetterton during the summer break.

The session saw the team try a number of new developments designed to improve performance and reliability.

These improvements, coupled with Goff’s growing experience, should allow him to enjoy a fruitful second half of the season according to team principal Dick Bennetts.

He said: “I think he (Goff) has done a very good job to get into fifth place in the championship in his Team IHG Rewards Club BMW.

“Jack is well aware that for the rest of the season his job is to push on, continue his impressive progress and take every point he possibly can.”

The Snetterton triple-header, which will be televised live on ITV4, is the sixth round of 10 in this year’s BTCC and comes before visits to Knockhill, Rockingham, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

Snetterton will see Goff’s fellow local drivers Tom Ingram and Matt Simpson compete for Speedworks Motorsport, with Ingram just seven points and one place behind Goff.
