Marlow were no match for Boyne Hill’s rampant batsmen as they fell to a six-wicket defeat in the Thames Valley Cricket League Division One.

The visitors won the toss and surprisingly elected to put Marlow into bat on a favourable looking wicket on Saturday.

It appeared to be an error of judgement as Marlow made a decent start and eased to 60 without loss before Boyne began to turn the screw.

Openers Imran Nawaz and Joe Brown fell for 22 and 33 respectively and Marlow soon found themselves on 64-3.

Kevin Hudson (22) and Gary lines (17) helped settle their team down again but runs were proving hard to come by for the home side.

They were struggling to cope with the spin bowling of Mark Firth who claimed 4-34, while Wasim Maharoof (2-20) also impressed.

There efforts were largely responsible for dismissing Marlow for 172 from 49.3 overs.

Boyne’s chase was clinical in the extreme as Ziya Mohamed (41) and Muhammad Irfan (72 not out) guided them home inside 30 overs.

Mark Dozzell had the most success with the ball on his way to finishing with 2-44 and there were also wickets for Jeremy Batty (1-31) and Harry Spear (1-55).

Marlow will now look to lift themselves in time for a trip to Yateley on Saturday.
