GARETH Ainsworth says he is not panicking just yet despite his side continuing to struggle to pick up points away from home.

Ainsworth’s side were undone once again when they were edged out by Yeovil in a forgettable game last weekend as the Chairboys fell to their fifth defeat on the road.

And despite the prospect of another long trip to Mansfield tomorrow who are on the periphery of the play-off places, Ainsworth is urging his players to remain calm.

“I’m not worried,” Ainsworth stressed. “Of course it does concern me that we are not picking up points away and I can’t my finger on what it is down to just yet.

“But in the years I have been here we have been a force to be reckoned with on the road with some of their best records putting in a string of good performances.

“We were rubbish against Yeovil which was uncharacteristic but that’s no excuse because we know what we are capable of and teams usually have to raise their game us.”

And Ainsworth admits he is looking to build on the foundations of their solid home form of late which has seen them win their last three games including cup victory over West Ham.

“We had a big meeting on Tuesday,” he said. “We went through and discussed everything as to how we can improve, and I’m expect a big reaction this weekend.

“I feel these results just as much as the boys, so when we don’t win it hurts all of us but we are trying to put it right so that we come out of the traps quickly on Saturday.”

Ainsworth has been plagued by injuries all season and he even received a calls from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Scott Kashket saying they were feeling ill before the Yeovil game.

But the pair made the trip and both are back in contention to start this weekend, while midfielder Marcus Bean is also fighting his way back to full fitness following a bad injury.

“Obviously it doesn’t help when your strikers are calling you up saying that they are ill,” Ainsworth said. “But these things happen and thankfully they better this week.

“We are looking stronger every week with more players coming back into the fold. Luke O’Nien has been looking sharper and even at 90 per cent he is a hell of a player.”

And after the club held a fans forum on Wednesday, Ainsworth is assured there is no discontent among the supporters just yet.

“They’re a humble bunch who have bought into the humility of the club,” Ainsworth said. “We’ve had two good seasons and with that expectations rise and more is expected of us.

“For quick success in football you can either have an owner with deep pockets or get massive crowds every week. We don’t have either and the fans do understand that.

“But that is what we have thrived on in the past by being the underdog and fighting for and earning results. We need to get that back and we’ll aim to start that on Saturday.”
