Doncaster Rovers 2 Wycombe Wanderers 2

TALK about a tale of two managers - one fuming over two goalkeeping errors, another delighted with the point and ruing not coming away with all three.

The mood hanging over Rovers' boss Darren Ferguson as he marched up the stadium stairs to the press room was dark.

Two poor errors from stand-in goalkeeper Ross Etheridge had allowed Wycombe's Matt Bloomfield to cash in and cost the promotion-chasing Rovers two points at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"We know why we haven’t won the game - two individual errors," reflected son of Fergie. "The game should be over at half-time. We should have put the game to bed, it should have been four or five."

But that's football. And as Fergie junior walked past his opposite number Gareth Ainsworth to offer a quick post-match chat in the manager's office, it was clear from the Wycombe boss's demeanour that he was the happier.

Paris Cowan-Hall with a far post header in injury time, with just the goalkeeper to beat, could have wrapped up all three points for the visitors and a first away win since February 9 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

However, the young striker failed to hit the target, and so a first awayday three pointer in 263 days went begging.

"That would have been daylight robbery," admitted Ainsworth afterwards.

"Doncaster gave us a mountain to climb in the second half. I asked for a reaction at half-time, we got a reaction, and we could have gone on and won the game at the end."

This was a massive point for Wycombe. The league table will show just a solitary point, but the manner and discipline which Wycombe showed in the second half merited all three.

Ferguson was right. His team who will surely be contesting a place in League 1 come next May, should have been home and hosed by half-time.

The unfortunate Etheridge dropped a cross under pressure which allowed Bloomfield to hook home an over-head kick and give Wycombe a 19th-minute lead.

Doncaster responded well and were level 10 minutes later. James Coppinger, who missed an open goal from two yards before Wycombe's opener, was played in on the right and curled a wonderful low cross which Tommy Rowe met to score.

The home side were in the ascendancy and took a deserved lead on 40 minutes through John Marquis, who weaved his way into the box and confidently finished.

But Doncaster became increasingly sloppy after the break and an equaliser looked inevitable. It came on 78 minutes as Paris Cowan-Hall drilled a low shot from 20 yards which Etheridge fumbled, allowing Bloomfield to tap home the equaliser.

Bloomfield was delighted with his two goals. "Funnily enough, I was saying to my dad in the car home on Thursday after training that it would be nice if I could get a couple of goals which would be tap-ins," he said.

"It's funny how it happened today.

"I reacted to it twice and managed to get the ball in. Personally, I am delighted, but it was more important to get a point away from home.

"We always believe we can mix it with the better teams in the league and we did that today."
