Gareth Ainsworth slammed referee Michael Salisbury's decision to hand Crewe Alexandra an 87th minute penalty, which gave them a 2-1 win over Wanderers.

Sido Jombati was adjudged to have fouled centre-half George Ray with three minutes to go at Gresty Road, as the Crewe defender fell theatrically over.

Ainsworth told Salisbury what he thought of the decision, which saw the Wycombe manager sent to the stands.

He said: "That is the first time I have been sent to the stands in my career.

"I disagreed with the referee's decision. I didn't swear which is the main thing and he was calming it down.

"The penalty was unbelievably soft. I feel for the boys and the fans but we got a sucker punch and we have to roll with the good and the bad."

He added: "It is a tough one to take. The boys have done what I have asked them to do and I got a total reaction and I was pleased with the performance and we deserved a point.

"We will get the rub of the green at some stage but I am pleased and we will win a lot more than we lose.

"I know we have improved from Saturday and although I know I am judged on results, the performance was a lot better.

"We will be up for Saturday, we have a good one at home (Carlisle) and we are unbeaten there for a long time and we are really looking forward to that one."

Alex Jakubiak made his full debut for the Chairboys in Cheshire and Ainsworth praised his performance. He commented: "Alex was lively but he was running at people and getting past people and he is the type of player who excites people, which was good to see."
