High Wycombe racer AJ Owen won both races in a dramatic weekend at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

Owen, looking to become the Pre-2003 Touring champion for the second time, was on pole position in both races in his Honda Civic Type R.

Although he won both races, it didn’t completely go to plan.

He said: “We shared the grid with fast BMWs and in the first race I was on pole and made a good start but there were a few issues early on.

“My throttle sensor was playing up and it was either full throttle or none at all. The BMW is definitely quicker in a straight line but my car is a lot quicker on corners so I was able to sneak up the inside and hold on for the win.

“In the second race, I was on pole position and made another quick start. However, I hit one of the BMWs as he slid onto the side and I hit his car on a very narrow stretch of the track.

“I then managed to overtake him on the grass uphill. As I was coming to the end of the race, I lost my fourth gear and had to go from third gear to fifth, which was quite challenging but fortunately we got the points.”

Owen exclaimed that the target was to try and win both races, but it did come at a cost for his Honda.

However, he added: “The target for every race is to get as many points as possible.

“It was great to win both races at Cadwell Park and now we have a break before the next race.”

The next event is being held at Silverstone’s Grand Prix circuit on June 24 and 25 and Owen is relieved that their is time between now and then to get his vehicle back up to scratch.

He commented: “With the fault with the gearbox, we now have time to get that repaired instead of it being a rush job.

“It takes roughly three hours to get that out and then another three to fix. I can also get work done to the bodywork too.

“The track at Silverstone has its pros and cons for me. Obviously it is exciting to race at the Formula One circuit but it doesn’t really suit my car as it is a quick track.

“At the corners is where I can make up ground on the faster cars but I am definitely looking forward to getting back out there in a few weeks in form.”
