Wycombe race ace AJ Owen has had a rollercoaster couple of weeks on the track, but in the process won the title in his class for the third year in a row.

An extraordinary chain of events occurred at Brands Hatch recently when Owen had an ECU failure. Having borrowed an ECU from a competitor, it looked as though the weekend would be a frustrating one for the 2015 champion.

However, having dropped back to eighth after starting on pole, he clawed his way back to seal a win in the first race.

Incredibly, a carbon copy happened in race two when Owen once again started slowly but got back to seal a momentous victory.

Lydden then provided Owen with a chance to see how his new ECU would operate but disaster struck when he was taken out in the first race but a car in a lower class and Owen had no option but to retire from the rest of the weekend.

Although the actual championship title is now out of his grasp, Owen is looking forward to the rest of the season on and off the race track.

He said: “We were due to be racing at Thruxton in a couple of weeks but our first child is due to be born and the car needs more time to be repaired.

“I am then going to be racing at Silverstone in October in my original car, which I am really looking forward to.

“My dad will also be racing that weekend and we will be up against each other. I don’t want to say I will beat him but he is a wily old fox so you can’t rule him out.

“It is nice to win n my class again but it is frustrating that I am now out of the title race. I am just looking forward to finishing the campaign well.”
