Chairboys forward Dayle Southwell explained he is going to make the most of his first-team opportunity after impressing in his last two games for Wanderers.

Southwell played a starring role in the win over Yeovil on Saturday and the victory over West Ham U21s on Tuesday evening and is determined to make the most of his chance.

He said: "I think I have done alright. I have obviously had to be patient and have worked hard on the training ground and it has paid off with the fitness with 90 minutes on Saturday and then another 90 minutes again against West Ham and hopefully I can continue to impress the gaffer.

"It would have been nice to top the two games off with a goal. The West Ham keeper made a good save in the first half and then another in the second half so it was a bit frustrating to not get the goal but pleased for the boys to get the win."

Southwell partnered Nick Freeman up top in the West Ham victory and praised his strike partner for his display.

He added: "Obviously it was a different role for Nick but both of us have got legs and we stretched them and when we got in behind we caused them a lot of problems."

Attention now turns to the FA Cup clash against Leatherhead on Sunday and Southwell is wary of the threat the non-league side pose, as well as looking forward to competing in such a special competition.

Southwell commented: "It is a nice draw for us but no game is an easy game and it will be their cup final.

"They will be looking to get through to the third round where the big teams come in and we are looking forward to it and hopefully we can produce another professional performance.

"I love the FA Cup. I have always loved playing in it and hopefully we can get that win as it is always good to see the draw and the buzz around so I am looking forward to it."
