Scott Kashket scored the winner on his first start since May as Wycombe Wanderers came from behind to record a vital 2-1 win against struggling Grimsby Town in a pulsating game at Adams Park.

Kashket tapped home from close-range on 67 minutes after Sido Jombati flicked on Joe Jacobson's corner.

Eariler on, Grimsby had taken a shock lead when Martyn Woolford capitalised on hesitation from Michael Harriman to coolly slotted past Scott Brown.

Wanderers pummelled the Mariners defence and were in the ascendency for the majority of the game and grabbed a deserved equaliser when Adam El-Abd rifled home from 15 yards after Jacobson's magnificent delivery wasn't cleared.

Wycombe were in the ascendency in the first few minutes with Grimsby pinned back early on.

Randell Williams had the first effort for the Blues on nine minutes, letting fly from 20 yards after good work by Adebayo Akinfenwa but his strike sailed over.

Williams had an even better chance two minutes later when more excellent work by Akinfenwa released Kashket, who ‘s cross caused havoc. The ball hung in the air and Williams headed wide under pressure.

Grimsby had a chance a minute later when Woolford’s firm effort was held by Scott Brown at the second attempt.

The Mariners then took a surprise lead before Wanderers came back strongly from that setback, once again pinning the visitors back in their own box.

Akinfenwa had an opportunity on 19 minutes when he turned expertly but his volley was deflected wide for a corner.

Williams was causing Grimsby problems with his pace and he saw his shot on 27 minutes well saved by James McKeown.

The home side were piling on the pressure and Kashket saw his goal disallowed for offside after connecting with Akinfenwa’s header.

The ever-dangerous Akinfenwa had another crack on 35 minutes when he did a clever-one two with Kashket but his curled effort went straight into McKeown’s arms.

Akinfenwa then had a golden chance to equalise on 40 minutes when he was unmarked and his first effort was magnificently saved by McKeown before his second effort was blocked on the line.

The Blues once again started the second half on the front foot but Grimsby were continuing to hold firm.

Akinfenwa was causing havoc and he saw a header on 57 minutes clip the crossbar after a lovely ball in from Harriman.

The Blues were knocking on the door and El-Abd notched his first goal for the club with a superb finish.

That equaliser buoyed the Chairboys and the home side’s dominance reaped the rewards when Kashket scored to send the Blues faithful into raptures.

Despite the Chairboys’ dominance, Grimsby had a massive opportunity on 73 minutes when Mitch Rose met Danny Collins’ header but put it wide with just Brown to beat.

Wycombe still looked likely to extend their lead and McKeown pulled off a wonderful double save on 87 minutes when he denied Luke O'Nien and Akinfenwa in quick succession.

Grimsby piled on some late pressure but the Blues held firm to record a priceless home win and cement third place in League Two.
