Wycombe skipper Adam El-Abd said the Blues were thankful for the three points as Wanderers scraped a 1-0 win against Yeovil at Huish Park.

The Chairboys never got into top gear against the Glovers but were indebted to another defensive masterclass and a Randell Williams strike to steal the points from Somerset.

El-Abd said: "We weren't really at our best but at this stage of the season it is all about the three points.

"If we achieve our goal which is promotion and credit to Yeovil, they gave us a run for our money.

"We are very thankful for the three points but it edges us closer to where we want to be."

It was Wycombe's first game for 12 days and El-Abd put the performance down to a bit of rustiness as to why they weren't on top form.

He added: "It has happened to us earlier on in the season where we have had a long lay-off and it has taken us a while to get going.

"We were a bit slow to react to certain things but thankfully we were able to stay in the game and Randell came up with a bit of brilliance to win it for us.

"Randell has been fantastic since he has come in and hopefully he can continue that form for the rest of the season."

El-Abd and his defensive partners produced more heroics and the captain was keen to praise those around him for their displays.

He said: "It was nice to get another clean sheet. As a unit we are looking a lot tighter and if you don't concede it gives you another chance to win.

"Nathan McGinlry was outstanding and all credit to him and he has waited for his chance and trained hard and fair play to him."
