Wycombe Wanderers gained a valiant point after a 0-0 draw against Lincoln City in a pulsating atmosphere at Sincil Bank.

The Imps had two goals disallowed and the better of the chances, especially in the first half, but Wanderers dug deep to remain unbeaten away from home in 2018.

Matt Rhead found the net twice in the first period but both goals were chalked off, one for offside and one for a push.

The Blues did have their opportunities with Ryan Allsop pulling off a magnifcent save in the opening 45 minutes to deny a combination of Nathan Tyson and Lincoln skipper Luke Waterfall.

Lincoln City made the brighter start in a raucous atmosphere at Sincil Bank with Rhead scoring a disallowed goal after three minutes with Scott Wharton adjudged offside.

Wycombe also made a solid start to this crucial match and Joe Jacobson’s vicious corner on nine minutes just about evaded everyone.

It was a frantic opening 15 or 20 minutes and the home side had a great chance to on 18 minutes when Rhead’s flick found Harry Anderson but he screwed his shot well wide from inside the box.

The Imps were gradually getting on top of Wanderers and Jacobson almost inadvertently put into his own goal on 23 minutes with Scott Brown backtracking but the ball landed on the roof of the net.

Brown then made an incredible save two minutes later when he tipped Rhead’s improvised effort onto the bar and away for a corner.

Adebayo Akinfenwa had a good opportunity on 28 minutes when he met Sam Saunders’ cross with a firm header but it went just over the bar.

Wanderers had their first effort on target on 32 minutes when Matt Bloomfield’s fierce strike was well parried away by Allsop.

The Blues almost took the lead on 38 minutes when Jacobson’s wicked delivery aimed for Tyson and a combination of the winger and Waterfall forced Allsop into a brilliant save.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men were getting into the game and Tyson had a chance on 40 minutes when he met Jacobson’s throw with a header which was easily held by Allsop.

Lincoln looked a threat from set pieces and Wharton blazed over from six yards on 42 minutes from Anderson’s raking cross.

On the stroke of half-time, Lincoln looked as though they took the lead when Rhead headed into the top corner from Sam Habergham’s cross but he was adjudged to have pushed Nathan McGinley.

The home side had another golden opportunity to go ahead before the break when Anderson smashed the ball over under pressure from Brown.

Danny Cowley’s men started the second half on the front foot and Matt Green struck inches over on 48 minutes after a clever free kick from Habergham.

Wanderers definitely posed a threat from the break and Michael Harriman ran 40 yards before drawing a good stop from Allsop on 52 minutes.

The game carried on at a frightening tempo and Lee Frecklington saw his daistycutter calmly held by Brown on 56 minutes.

Randell Williams, fresh from scoring his first ever professional goal at Yeovil, had a crack from 26 yards on the 58 minute mark but his thumping effort went way off target.

The game continued to ebb and flow and Tyson stung the palms of Allsop with a piledriver on 68 minutes.

Seconds later, Anderson went down in the box under a challenge from Jacobson but referee James Brooks waved away vociferous appeals.

Substitute Paris Cowan-Hall almost broke the deadlock on 84 minutes when he turned in the box and his shot was smartly saved by the legs of Allsop.

Wanderers held firm in the last few minutes and go into Saturday's game against Accrington in good heart.
