Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth bemoaned Accrington's first goal after a bright start from his side in their 4-0 defeat at Adams Park.

A defensive mix-up between Nathan McGinley and Scott Brown allowed Kayden Jackson to tap into an empty net on 15 minutes after a very quick start from the Blues.

Nathan Tyson and Paris Cowan-Hall both came close to giving the Chairboys the lead but Jackson's goal rocked the home side and galvanised the visitors.

Further goals from Scott Brown, Sean McConville and substitute Offrande Zanzala gave Stanley an ultimately comfortable victory.

Ainsworth said: "It was a really bad goal to concede and seemed to change the whole momentum of the game and their tails came up.

"They got another one, another really poor goal, and they are the champions. You can't give them a sniff and they capitalised on that.

"I thought in the first 15 minutes we did well with Paris hitting the post but it was a tough afternoon.

"We will get over it quickly as we now have a big game next Saturday."

Despite the result, Exeter's failure to beat Crawley meant the Blues stayed in third and Ainsworth was relieved at that fact.

He added: "Lady Luck has smiled on us as we didn't deserve any fortune.

"The boys are devastated but all I will say is Accrington are worthy champions of this league.

"A team hasn't come here and done that to us all season and they were outstanding and that's why they are champions.

"They won the second balls and defended resiliently and we were under par.

"The fans were magnificent. They weren't under par, they were over par for me and I thank them for their support as we need them now.

"It is still in our hands and hopefully a couple of injured players will be back next weekend."
