The sun blazed down for Marlow’s first match of the new bowling season at Pound Lane last weekend and provided the perfect setting for a close win against Thame.
The return of Roger Turpie gave Marlow inspiration and he signalled his intent with a five shot win in the opening end.
His team of Timbrell and Lynda Taplin combined well and although Thame pulled back to within two shots after 10 ends a three end blitz of 14 shots including an eight in one end eased them to a 26-18 victory.
Club captain Clive Brooks, George Malster and Jean Barltrop began slowly and trailed by four shots after three ends, took a 9-5 lead into end seven and tidied up with a 18-10 win.
Skips Clive Brown and Doug Pounds both steered their teams to wins of 15-11 and 19-16 respectively as Marlow narrowly closed out the match 106-100.
Marlow are holding their Open Day sessions looking for new recruits on Friday evening May 4 at 6pm and Sunday, May 6 at 10am at their Pound Lane ground.
