Wycombe Wanderers legend Matt Bloomfield has extended his stay at Adams Park until June 2020 after signing a two-year contract extension this week.

Bloomfield is closing in on 500 appearances for the Blues having joined in December 2003, experiencing two promotions and a League Cup semi-final during his journey with the club so far.

With the Blues on the cusp of promotion to League One this term, Bloomfield will be hoping for another memorable moment at Adams Park.

The 34-year-old said: "I’ve always said that when I came here in 2003 I never expected to stay for more than a couple of years, but now I can’t imagine playing my football anywhere else.

"I love being part of this squad and this season has been one of the most enjoyable times of my career.

“I’m excited to be part of this club’s progress and feel I still have plenty to offer on the pitch.

"I’ve played more games this season than in any season in the last 11 years; I feel as fit as ever, I really enjoy the role I play in the team and am proud to pull on the shirt each week alongside the fantastic professionals we have in our changing room.

“I want to keep playing for as long as possible but it’s great for me to know in the back of my mind that there could be plans to move into coaching or other roles within the club in the future.

“I’d like to thank the gaffer and (sporting director) Andrew Howard for the help and support they’ve given me, and the faith they’ve shown in me to keep doing what I do for another two years.”

Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth added: “I’ve worked with Matt as a team-mate and as a manager for nearly nine years now and he has always been an outstanding professional on and off the pitch.

"He continues to typify what Wycombe Wanderers is all about with his hard work ethic, his help and support for his team-mates and the rapport he has with the fans.

“He’s had yet another excellent season for us and proved – like many others in the squad – that age is just a number and he’s got plenty of football left in him.

“Securing him for another two years gives both the club and Matt the opportunity to keep one eye on his future in a possible coaching role, but for now we’re all fully focused on what he can deliver for us on the pitch and I’m delighted to have captured his signature on this new contract.”
