Marlow began their 2018 Bucks Cup campaign last week against Bassetsbury Bowls Club and kicked off with 2 wins a draw and a one shot defeat.
The four rink home and away format produced some exciting bowls, Brian Jones, Nobby Anson and Dave Turner were the chief winners at home securing a 21-12 victory. Back at Bassetsbury, Andy Savin and Paul Simmons were in close run matches.
Simmons playing alongside Roger Turpie and Robert Blake led 13-9 after 14 ends but then fell away and just scraped a draw with two shots in the final end 15-15.
Andy Savin , Trevor Day and Don Rockell had a fine start were then caught and overtaken but finished off in style with three shots in the last end for a good victory.
Over at Marlow, Dave White, Stewart Rump and Pat Ryan were in good shape 15-7 ahead in the 13th end but dropped 10 shots in four ends to lose by a single shot at the death.
This win gave Marlow 11 points from a possible 14.
It was an away day at the weekend for Marlow as they took four triples to the artificial surface at Slough but only one rink came away with a win as Slough triumphed 73-55.
John Henniker, Bob Coombs and Bob Perrin forged into a 13-0 lead after just six ends and continued the pressure to tie up the game 25-7. But Slough proved too strong in the other ends.
