Bucks’ hopes of qualifying for the final stages of the Unicorns Counties T20 competition suffered a blow when they could win one match in their double-header against Herefordshire at High Wycombe.

After a convincing seven-wicket success in their first game, they suffered defeat by the same margin in the second.

It now means that Bucks must win both their matches against Shropshire at Whitchurch on Sunday June 17, and hope that group leaders Berkshire slip up in their final matches on the same day.

A brilliant display of fielding, which include several fine catches in the deep and a smart run out, restricted Herefordshire, who won the toss, to 113-8 in their first game against Bucks on Sunday.

All the Bucks bowlers performed well, with spinner Uzair Amjaid taking 3-13 on his home ground.

Wycombe’s Dan Marles then hit an unbeaten 50 off 46 balls as the hosts got home with seven wickets and ten balls to spare.

In the second game, Bucks chose to bat first and made 147-9 from 20 overs, falling away after they had been given a bright start by Robin Pritchard, Alex Woodland and George Russell.

This time Bucks bowlers could not contain the Herefordshire batsmen.
Opener Peter Burgoyne, who had earlier taken four wickets, led the way with 72 from just 44 balls to lead them home with neatly three overs to spare.

Adam Dobb, who had bowled well in the first game, received particularly hard punishment, his two overs going for 35 runs.

Shropshire now await for Bucks on Sunday week.
