High Wycombe’s wonderful winning run continued with a very hard-fought three wicket victory at home against Oxford last weekend.

Oxford were put into bat by Nathan Hawkes, Cam Parsons (2/58) got the ball rolling as he dismissed Owyn Tong-Jones before Tom Hampton (2/38) had Calvin Dickinson removed for just six.

Muhammad Ayub and Harvey Eltham then put on a promising 63-run stand before Ayub fell to Jonathan Burden to make the score 103/3.

This dismissal sparked a steady stream of wickets with Eltham falling soon after for 34 off the bowling of Dan Marles (3/29) with Connor Haddow also taking two wickets to claim Fergus Nutt and Robert Keat.

Oxford were all out for 200 from 49.4 overs and Wycombe had a very gettable target to chase.

However, the innings got off to a bad start as Teddie Casterton was dismissed in the first over and the home side were teetering on 65/5.

Fortunately, wicketkeeper George Russell played a sparkling innings hitting 68 not out to see his side home by three wickets.

Captain Hawkes said: “Oxford are a good side and thanks to George’s mature knock we got over the line.

“Everyone is contributing at the moment which is great and we need that heading to Finchampstead on Saturday.

“We haven’t got a good record at their ground and we want to put that right this weekend.”
