It was a joyous week for Marlow last week as they completed a successful Bucks Cup league period and cemented their position at the top of the table with a victory over Chess Vale.

The two homes rinks of Brian Jones, Nobby Anson and Dave Turner and Dave White, Trevor Day and Stewart Rump were keen to ensure Marlow stayed at the top and that they did. Dave White’s rink put in a wonderful performance to win 27-5 and Jones and co followed up with a three shot win 17-14. Marlow lost on one rink away but Robert Blake, Roger Turpie and Andy Savin won 17-11 to ensure a home tie in the quarter finals on July 15.

More success came at Pound Lane last Sunday as they faced their arch rivals Chesham in the Tony Alcock Mixed Double fours and again both Roger Turpie and Trevor Day featured in a superb two rink win.

Mags Shelley skipped her team of Roger Turpie, Suzanne Bell and John Boult into a brilliant 13-1 lead after seven ends. Despite a comeback by Chesham to get within 6 shots after 13 ends they pulled away again and took the match 26-15.

Trevor Day, Mike Woolams, Sue Burden and Carol Hyde were behind 3-8 after 5 ends, drew level in the eighth at 8-8 but then switched fully into gear to take a 20-10 lead in the 14th. Chesham came back at their hosts but Marlow held on for a 26-20 victory.

Marlow now face a home tie against Cheddington Bowls Club in the next round.

The midweek home match against High Wycombe and the match against Maidenhead at the weekend were not happy hunting days for Marlow.

Marlow scored 77 shots in both games but sadly the opposition got the better of Marlow in both matches. High Wycombe winning by six shots in the midweek game even though Marlow had two fine winning rinks skipped by Clive Brooks and Doug Pounds who won 21-12 and 20-13 respectively.

On Saturday they were pushed hard by Maidenhead and again it was a top rink win of Clive Brooks, Anne White and Alan Burden 21-13 that helped Marlow’s cause but all the other rinks lost apart from Peter Barltrop’s rink who drew 14-14 and Maidenhead Town went away with a 86-77 victory.
